A new EV van from LEVC

You may recognise the shape of the nose in this new EV van from LEVC. The name may help too – London Electric Vehicle Company. Yes, its a van but not as you know it! Its an electric can converted from…yep, the London Taxi!

LEVC’s history began in 1908 when the first dedicated black cab was specially designed and commissioned for use in London. With its unmistakable silhouette and classic design cues, this iconic British vehicle has defined the company for over a century. In 2018, LEVC introduced its latest taxi model, the electric TX.

LEVC manufactures its purpose-built, range extended electric TX taxi and TX shuttle models at a state-of-the-art factory in Ansty, Coventry.

A new era for the London Cab

In November 2020, LEVC started production of its first non-taxi model with the launch of VN5, a medium-sized electric van. Utilising the same eCity technology as TX, VN5 offers both zero-emission capability and zero range anxiety, a critical combination for commercial vehicle operators.

Boasting a combined range of 304 miles – its a surprisingly good range. Commercial vans currently on the market are not at that range. And to help trades people cover, they’ve announced a new conversion partner, Sortimo.

Sortimo operates ProPartner fleet conversion sites across the UK and Europe, offering high quality solutions specifically designed to meet the demanding and ever-changing needs of the commercial vehicle market. The company’s SR5 product – the fifth-generation van shelving system – has been customised to fit LEVC’s flagship new electric commercial van, VN5. Sortimo also offers a number of other storage options including folding racking, drawers, roof racks, load boxes as well as the design and application of vehicle decals for fleets.

“It is extremely important that we can offer VN5 customers flexible, bespoke solutions to meet their individual needs. Sortimo will play a vital role in ensuring we can offer high quality racking solutions that will make VN5 even more versatile and accessible to a wider range of markets.”

    Joerg Hofmann, CEO of LEVC

Much of Sortimo’s product catalogue can be accessed online through mySortimo. The virtual service allows customers to select a VN5, and the configurator shows just how the final product will look, changing as options are added or removed. The guide also gives a live price estimate as the customer completes steps in the configuration process.

    Made in the UK

Designed, engineered and built at LEVC’s state of the art electric vehicle factory in Ansty, Coventry, production of the new EV Van from LEVC, the VN5, began in November 2020. VN5 is based on the same architecture and proven eCity range-extender technology as LEVC’s TX electric taxi and can achieve a pure EV range of over 60 miles (98 km) and a total flexible range of 304 miles (489 km).

More frugal drivers can expect to achieve a pure EV range of over 75 miles when operating in city centres*. In addition, VN5 utilises the same strong, lightweight bonded aluminium monocoque & SMC construction – a first in sector for the 1-tonne van segment, designed to last twice as long as the competition. It is also equipped with a class-leading turning circle of just 10.1m for unrivalled mobility in busy city environments.

More than passengers for new EV Van

With up to 5.5m3 capacity, VN5 cargo capacity easily accommodates two Euro sized pallets and offers a gross payload of up to 830kg. It has been built with a large side-loading door (enabling a pallet to be side-loaded) and a 60/40 split door at the rear to make loading and unloading easy for the driver.

Both TX and VN5 are sold through LEVC’s growing dealer network and, with more than 50 sales and service points in place across the UK, ensures that no customer is more than 45-minute drive from an authorized LEVC location.
